Jiangsu recently released an action plan to accelerate the intelligent and digital transformation of its ports and waterways.

The plan outlines overall requirements, near and medium-term goals, and key projects, forming a guideline from infrastructure upgrades to management and services.

By 2025, the province's newly built terminals will be equipped with intelligent information management systems. In the province’s main coastal and river ports, container and bulk cargo terminals for vessels of 10,000 tonnes and above should be powered by the artificial intelligence of things. The key operations at public berths for vessels of 50,000 tonnes and above should be covered by automated and intelligent technologies. The province’s terminals for hazardous cargo should achieve 100% digital management for safety operations.

By 2027, Jiangsu plans to expand the artificial intelligence of things to cover terminals for vessels of 50,000 tonnes and above. The province aims to establish some fully automated container and bulk cargo terminals, explore the automation transition at general cargo terminals, comprehensively enhance the e-document application and information service at major river and coastal ports.
