Jiangsu Province hosts six exhibition pavilions at the 20th China (Shenzhen) International Cultural Industries Fair (ICIF), which opened on May 23 and runs until May 27.

The pavilions are dedicated to the province and five cities, namely Nanjing, Xuzhou, Suzhou, Nantong and Suzhou, and feature 30 cultural enterprises.

The provincial zone leads with an engaging exhibition of Pingjiang Road, a well-preserved historical and cultural block in Suzhou. This exhibition showcases the ancient streetscape, Suzhou embroidery, woodblock printed New Year painting, pingtan (storytelling and ballad singing in the Suzhou dialect), and water town charm of Jiangnan.

Embroidery and porcelain, both symbols of traditional Chinese culture, are prominently displayed at this fair. A porcelain vase from Suzhou is embellished with slender embroidered petals, creating intriguing harmony of the two crafts and drawing significant attention.

The displays also include exquisite wristwatches and bracelets that incorporate Suzhou embroidery techniques. Yao Lan, a young artist and head of the Yao Embroidery brand, said that the front and back of the watches feature different patterns and colors for unique stitching effects, as the label endeavors to integrate intangible cultural heritage into everyday life.

The pingtan performance captivates visitors with soothing melodies, soft Suzhou dialect, and sweet singing. A holographic image reveals a performance by Xie Lan and Lu Jiaqi, young artists of the intangible cultural heritage. Nearby, the application of mixed-reality technologies illuminates the Taohuawu woodblock printing techniques with new perspectives.

Furthermore, the province showcases other intangible cultural heritage items such as Nanjing Yunjin brocade, Xuzhou scented sachets, Nantong blue calico and woodcarving. In addition, there are Huai opera performances and interactive calligraphy activities.
