Yangzhou Huaiyang Cuisine Festival highlights breakfast tea
The 5th China Zaocha Culture Festival and the 2023 Yangzhou Huaiyang Cuisine Festival will open simultaneously from May 25 to 31.
Zaocha, or early breakfast tea, is a morning meal that offers delicious treats served alongside hot teas. The traditional snacks also create a unique opportunity for locals to connect and socialize, making it a vital part of community life.
The festival will include an opening ceremony, an exhibition of renowned Zaocha options, a market for time-honored brands, a Zaocha tasting week, and various promotion activities.
The event features a combination of food, culture and consumption to showcase the city’s distinctive snacks, particularly the beloved Zaocha and its historical culinary techniques.
Additionally, the city will unveil the latest Zaocha map, providing information on 40 popular restaurants and celebrated gourmet food. The cultural festival, now in its fifth edition, has played an active role in promoting the branding and development of the city’s early breakfast tea, further enhancing its status as a UNESCO City of Gastronomy.
At present, the city has 26,400 bakery workers and its Zaocha businesses have expanded to Taipei, Singapore and Expo 2020 Dubai. The city produces 800 million buns each year, which are exported to more than 20 countries and regions, including Europe, the United States, and Japan.
