High-speed train promoting Jiangsu’s support to Lhasa makes first trip

A high-speed train named in honor of Jiangsu’s pairing-up support for Lhasa, Tibet Autonomous Region made its inaugural trip on April 26.

The renovated G7611 departed from Nanjing South Railway Station at 8:46 a.m. en route to Ningbo Railway Station.

The train is adorned with characters meaning the joint fragrance of the Jasmine flower, the flower of Jiangsu, and Kelsang, a flower favored by the Tibetan people. The interior is designed with cultural elements from Lhasa, from the door stickers to posters.

The program represents an innovative move by the coastal province to support the development of Lhasa in the new era, and to facilitate exchange between various ethnic groups. The train will function as a mobile exhibition for Lhasa in the heart of Yangtze River Delta, one of China’s economic hubs. It will help more people understand Lhasa, establish connections and facilitate development.

Wang Qiang, deputy secretary of the CPC Lhasa Municipal Committee and mayor of the city, expressed his gratitude to Jiangsu for its great contribution in supporting Lhasa for the past 29 years. He also said that the high-speed train will showcase the cultural charm of Lhasa to a wider audience and bring greater vitality to the city’s prosperity.
