Changzhou airport expansion plan gets go-ahead
The preliminary design for the terminal expansion of Changzhou Benniu International Airport has been officially approved by the Development and Reform Commission of Jiangsu Province, according to the provincial Department of Transport.
The expansion project aims to increase the annual capacity for 4.9 million passengers and 120,000 tons of cargo and mail by 2030. With a total investment of 1.658 billion yuan, the project will be completed in three years. The expansion includes the renovation of the terminal space of 36,000 square meters and goods warehouse of 19,255 square meters. It also involves the construction of a new car park, a secondary radar system for air traffic control and various support facilities.
The airport is a crucial part of Changzhou’s comprehensive transport network and the city’s strategy to become the central hub of the Yangtze River Delta region. The continuous growth of aviation business during the "13th Five-Year Plan" period has made it a necessity to expand the airport. After receiving approval from the province’s economic planner, Changzhou will gradually start the full construction of the airport expansion.
