Kunshan marks 10th anniversary of cross-Straits industrial cooperation
Kunshan, a top destination for Taiwan investment, held a symposium to mark the tenth anniversary of the cross-Straits industrial cooperation pilot zone on March 21.
In the event, the county-level city in Jiangsu Province announced ten major events, ten cases of reform and innovation, and ten cases of integrated development between Kunshan and Taiwan. Meanwhile, it unveiled an area designated for the development of service industries with Taiwan investment.
In February 2013, the State Council approved the establishment of the Kunshan pilot zone for deepening cross-Straits industrial cooperation, and also launched a joint conference system between the province and ministries led by the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC). Over the past ten years, 23 ministries and commissions including the NDRC and the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council held 10 such meetings with the provincial people's government. In response to the concerns of Taiwan-invested enterprises and Taiwan compatriots, the pilot zone took the initiative to implement more than 150 policies and measures, which cover industrial cooperation, trade facilitation, financial reform and innovation, and people-to-people exchanges. They have played an important role in supporting the pilot zone’s high-quality growth and integration with Taiwan’s development.
Data shows that Kunshan's GDP crossed three milestones from 2013 to 2023 and exceeded 500 billion yuan. The general public budget revenue doubled during the period and Kunshan becomes home to two industrial clusters with an output value of 100 billion yuan and six clusters above the 10 billion yuan level.
Taiwan investment contributed to 30% of Kunshan's regional GDP, 40% of the total industrial output value, 50% of the foreign investment utilized, and 60% of the total foreign trade. Kunshan has approved a total of 5,805 Taiwan-invested projects, with a total investment of $69.27 billion.
