Jiangsu company in Turkey rushes to aid earthquake relief
The subsidiary of Xuzhou Construction Machinery Group (XCMG) in Turkey has worked with its local agents to support relief efforts after strong earthquakes hit the country.
The company based in Ankara, about 700 km away from the epicenter, has eight Chinese workers and six Turks. XCMG activated an emergency response and rearranged its three excavators at a construction site in Gaziantep to move to the affected areas.
Within five hours after the quake, XCMG completed the purchase of the first batch of supplies worth 50,000 Turkish liras such as blankets, baby products and hygiene products, which were then immediately shipped to disaster areas. The company is continuing efforts to provide more support to the quake-hit region.
Liu Jiansen, vice president of XCMG and also general manager of the group’s import and export arm, said the group has about 600 excavators in Turkey and currently set ready 12 excavators and loaders for any rescue missions. Following the call of the Chinese Embassy in Turkey and the General Chamber of Commerce of Chinese Enterprises in Turkey, the company has also actively coordinated resources and facilitated contact to provide assistance to overseas Chinese.
Meanwhile, several Chinese rescue teams have departed for Turkey to join earthquake relief efforts. Liu said they have also contacted some of these teams and will offer full support to them.
