Jiangsu is home to 14 of China's top 50 biomedical parks in 2021, according to a ranking released during the 2022 China Biotech Innovation Conference, which opened in Beijing and Suzhou via video link on November 3.

The coastal province also had six of the top 20 performers on the list and Suzhou Industrial Park has continued to stand at the top tier.

Since 2013, the China National Center for Biotechnology Development has conducted evaluations and studies on the competitiveness of biopharmaceutical industrial parks for nine times. The ranking of China's 211 biomedical parks is based on performance of five aspects - environment, industry, technology, talent and partnership, and a secondary evaluation system with 39 indicators including sales growth and R&D spending.

In addition to Suzhou Industrial Park, the other five Jiangsu parks on the top 20 list are Taizhou Pharmaceutical High-Tech Industrial Development Zone, Nanjing Biotech and Pharmaceutical Valley, Nanjing Jiangning High-Tech Industrial Development Zone, Wuzhong Economic Development Zone and Lianyungang High-Tech Industrial Development Zone.

Jiangsu's biomedical output value has maintained first place in China, accounting for about one-sixth of the country's total.
