Jiangsu visitors to museums highest in China

On May 12, Nanjing Museum and Suzhou Museum West launched a celebration event for the upcoming International Museum Day, which falls on May 18 each year.

Museums in Jiangsu welcomed a total of more than 63 million visitors in 2021, ranking first in the country for several years, according to a report released by the Department of Culture and Tourism and the Bureau of Cultural Heritage in the province.

The report also showed Jiangsu is home to 355 registered museums and memorials. Museum visits in last year returned to 65% of the pre-pandemic level.

The launch ceremony of the provincial celebration introduced featured exhibition tours and a live webinar, where guests from British Museum, Chinese Museum Association and celebrated figures from the tourism industry gave their presentations.

Focusing on The Power of Museum, the theme of International Museum Day this year, Jiangsu will host 154 new and special exhibitions, 158 educational programs and more than 160 events for residential communities, schools and enterprises.

In addition to "Night at the Museum,” an annual cultural and educational program, Jiangsu will also hold thematic exhibitions at different places, including the Grand Canal, as well as nearly 100 virtual exhibitions.
