Wu Zhenglong calls for high-quality development of Yangtze River cultural park
Wu Zhenglong, secretary of the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee, inspected the efforts to build a national cultural park along the Yangtze River in Nanjing on March 23.
Noting the park is a major project to promote cultural prosperity in the new era, Wu said it’s important to protect and inherit the cultural heritage of the great river, improve the river’s ecological environment with unremitting efforts, and raise the bar in building the park’s section in Jiangsu.
Yuzui Wetland Park is located at the southern end of Nanjing's Hexi New Town, where the Yangtze, Jiajiang and New Qinhuai waterways converge. After years of restoration, the area now boasts thriving willow trees and flocks of wading birds, a popular destination for local residents who will also occasionally find the critically endangered Yangtze finless porpoises.
Wu learned about projects to protect the shoreline and build the wetland park during the inspection. Noting that the modernization drive should feature harmony between human beings and nature, Wu said priority should be given to the protection of the ecological environment, which includes the scientific and reasonable planning of spaces for production, living and ecological functions.
In recognizing the progress of Yuzui Wetland Park, Wu called for more efforts to preserve this cherished destination, promote the integration of ecological space with the urban environment, and also get the public to increasingly embrace the low-carbon development philosophy.
