East China’s Jiangsu Province officially released a guideline on further accelerating railway development on June 3, with a goal to put 1,000 km of new rail lines into operation by 2025.

The coastal province is expected to have a total length of 5,200 km of rail lines by 2025 including 3,000 km of high-speed rail tracks. The railway network then will ensure  1.5-hour commute time between Nanjing, capital city of Jiangsu, and all other cities with subordinate districts in the province, one-hour travel time to key cities in the Yangtze River Delta, and 2.5 hours of travelling between cities with subordinate districts.

The three clusters, namely Nanjing-Zhenjiang-Yangzhou, Suzhou-Wuxi-Changzhou, and Shanghai-Suzhou-Nantong, will realize the one-hour commute time by metro lines among the cities.

By 2035, Jiangsu will boast a sophisticated, comprehensive railway network that consists of high-speed rail lines, inter-city rail links, and cargo rail tracks. Over 95% of transport centers in counties and county-level cities will be linked by bullet trains, and cities with  a population of 500,000 are also connected by high-speed railways.
