Lianyungang port included in China’s ‘international hub’ program
The booming Lianyungang port has been recognized as one of China’s 27 major coastal ports to serve as international hubs, according to guidelines on developing comprehensive transport network, jointly released by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council.
The guidelines set long-term goals for railways, highways, coastal and inland ports, and airports. By 2035, the country's transport network should be convenient, cost-effective, green, intelligent and safe.
The inclusion further shows the importance of Lianyungang port after its rapid development during the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-2020). The port invested 13 billion yuan in five years to boost its role as a key trade, industry and logistics hub. The port is home to 70 berths above the 10,000 tonnes-class, 73 container routes, and 12 sea-rail intermodal transport channels. It has also launched a number of leading initiatives, such as application of the Internet of Things and data exchange.
After Lianyungang became one of three areas that make the China (Jiangsu) Pilot Free Trade Zone, a series of measures have been taken to boost foreign trade and strengthen opening up.
