The China Film Archive Jiangnan Center, the branch of China Film Archive outside Beijing, opened in Gusu District, Suzhou City on June 6.

Aimed at becoming a new landmark of film culture, the venue showcases Jiangnan-style designs and includes various functional zones, dedicated to film screenings, art exhibitions, and cultural creations. It will also serve as a platform for academic research, the development of cultural creations, and the production and distribution of art films. In its first month, the center will screen a selection of outstanding films.

Suzhou has played a unique role in China’s film history, boasting a rich heritage that spans over 100 years. In 2023, Suzhou's box office reached 1 billion yuan, ranking it ninth nationally and first in Jiangsu Province. The city currently is home to nearly 200 cinemas.
