Xuzhou-
Lianyungang economic belt includes two municipalities of Xuzhou and
Lianyungang with nine counties and county level cities under their
jurisdictions. Both land and population there occupy about 20% of the whole
province's.
During the 9th Five-year Plan period, the main targets of
the development of Xuzhou-Lianyungang economic belt are to expand rapidly its
economic volume so as to double 1995's GDP; to strengthen the development of
agricultural and industrial bases, so as to construct basically a modern farming
production base and form a embry of heavy industrial belt; to make a rapid
development of the tertiary industry so as to set a layout which includes
massive circulation, alarge market and great trade; to greatly improve the
development of city construction and urbanization so as to obviously strengthen

obviously the economic opening level; to make a progress in the management of
Huaihe water pollution so as to improve the environment conditions; by the year
of 2000, to achieve a relatively comfortable life for the people in

prospect of economic springing up.
After entering the 21th century,
Xuzhou-Lianyungang economic region will continuously carry out a number of main
projects to further accelerate the construction of Xuzhou-Lianyunagang economic
belt. By the year of 2010, the GDP will reach over RMB *465 billion with a
growth rate of 15% annually in ten years, and the GDP per capita will be 35, 000
yuan, near the average level of the province's. It will basically construct a
modern farming base, a heavy industrial base with steel, chemical, machinery and
construction material as the pillars, and a modern complex communication system
in all sorts of transportation ways. It will practise basically to achieve
city's modernization and rural urbanization, making the Xuzhou-Lianyungang
economic belt become a junction for uniting with inside and importing form
outside in Longhai-Lanxin economic region.
