The Slender West Lake,located in the west suburb of Yangzhou City,was originally a natural river course leading to the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal during the Sui(581-618)and Tang(618-907)periods. It's beauty lies in the meandering lake and simple and unsophisticated constructions. It is 4.3 kilometers in total length with an area of over 30 hectares. Daming temple was initially erected in 457 to 464 A. During the changes of dynasties,the temple had several name changes and were demolished at least three times by fire or by political chaos. In 1979,the temple had a major renovation sponsored by two levels of authority:municipal and provincial governments. In the subsequent 15 years,the monk traveled in many cities of Japan,introduced Chinese religious sculpture and founded a school and a private temple until his death in 763 A. The temple is one of the greatest places in Yangzhou to visit and has been listed with the highest national 4-AAAA tourist ranking. [Detail]
Shi Kefa(Shih K o-fa)was a high ranking general(equivalent to the head of the Ministry of War)in 1645 A. He refused to surrender and led the armed resistance against the enemy. Eventually the city fell to the invaders and Shi was killed in the battle at the age of 45.His body was never recovered,resulting in claims that the general still lived which later led to an anti-Manchu rebellion. In addition to being a general,Shi was also a calligrapher in his time. The memorial hall is also a place for collections of historic items unearthed in Yangzhou area,including many works from the so-called Eight Eccentrics of Yangzhou. [Detail]

Heyuan Garden,originally named Jixiao Mountain Village,is located at the central part of Xunningmen Street on the north bank of the ancient Canal. The garden is dicided into three parts:the northern part is the rear garden。 The central part is a countryard in a mixed Chinese-Western style,a model of the combination of Chinese architectural art with Western style in this field。 The southeastern part of it is an area of guarinite-built houses 。 An interesting feature of this garden is a 430 meter-long covered walkway which winds through the entire complex and links the different buildings 。 [Detail]
Geyuan Garden located on the northern side of Dongguan Street of Yangzhou city,was rebuilt by General Manager Huang Zhiyun,a local salt industry official on a ruin in the 23rd year of Qing Dynasty Emperor Jiaqing's reign(1818).Bamboo leaves in the gardon look like the Chinese character--个(Ge),hence the name Geyuan Garden 。 Geyuan Garden in YangZhou,one of the four best gardens in China. And the magnum opus of private gardens in Qing Dynasty is a key member of the national cultural relics. Built by the Song Dynasty writer Ouyang Xiu when he served as prefect of the city,this hall stands just west of Fajing Temple. Looking out from this hall,the mo untains to the south of the Yangtze River appear as a line at the viewer's eye level,hence the name Fiat Hills Hall. [Detail]
