In an interview with Xinhua Daily on December 5, Ivana Vala Magatova, Consul General of the Slovak Republic in Shanghai, said Slovakia looks forward to deeper cooperation with Jiangsu province in the fields such as trade, science & technology, education, tourism and environmental protection.

She also detailed the exchanges between China and Slovakia over the past few years as well as great strides Jiangsu has made.

In 2010, Vala Magatova came to Shanghai for the World Expo. During that period, as a member of the delegation led by former Slovak President Ivan Gasparovic, she also visited Suzhou, where they were recognized and greeted warmly by Slovak visitors to her great surprise.

In July of this year, she was posted to Shanghai as consul general, and naturally paid more attention to Jiangsu province that is located in the Yangtze River Delta region together with Shanghai. Vala Magatova believes that Jiangsu is one of the most developed provinces in China and takes the lead in technology, culture and education at high levels.

In her view, China is currently further promoting the reform and opening up, and the China International Import Expo held in Shanghai in November, as an example, showed China’s broader vision and determination to deepen the opening up. Vala Magatova forecasts a closer relationship between the two countries.

At the expo, she also noticed new business opportunities. As China expands the imports and advances opening up, there will be much more opportunities for Slovak companies. Furthermore, the Belt and Road Initiative will put the bilateral cooperation on the fast-lane of development.

To take an example, Nanjing Normal University’s Law School opened the Slovak Law Research Center on November 29. And thanks to the efforts of the Consulate General of Slovakia, IPEC Group, a well-known real estate developer in Slovakia, held a promotion event in Nanjing on December 5.

Vala Magatova said she will visit Jiangsu in the near future and will do her utmost to strengthen exchanges and cooperation between Slovakia and Jiangsu. She also hopes that Slovakia will become the regional center of Jiangsu enterprises in Central and Eastern Europe.
