Su Changfu, who works at the Power and Energy Source Department at the Nanjing Lukou International Airport, has earned the reputation of “blood creating hero.”

In the past 20 years, Su has donated blood 67 times, contributing 20,000 milliliters of blood in total, and blood platelets 43 times. With an average 4,800 milliliters of blood in an adult’s body, Su’s donation is enough for four men.

Su said he has insisted on donating blood to show his gratitude to good Samaritans. More than10 years ago, Su’s brother-in-law had aplastic anemia but survived after a massive blood transfusion. “Those helpers saved my relative with their blood, and all I can do is to give back,” said Su.

According to medical workers, blood in human body undergoes a constant process of metabolism, so donating blood will not harm a person’s health. Donating blood in a safe way can stimulate the production of new blood cells and reduce the risks of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases.
