An awarding ceremony of the 2017 “People of the Year in Nanjing” was held in Nanjing, Feb. 2. Lin Boyao who has been dedicated to Sino-Japan peace and communication won the award.

Lin Boyao was born and raised in Japan. For almost all his life, he has been seeking the truths of Nanjing Massacre and telling them to the Japanese people.

Lin made his first trip to Nanjing in 1978 in the hope to present a flower to memorize the victims in Nanjing Massacre, only to find that there was not an official memorial yet. So he suggested that Nanjing government build a memorial hall for the victims in Nanjing Massacre.

When the Memorial Hall of the Victims in Nanjing Massacre by Japanese Invaders was built and open to public in 1985, Lin organized a trip and took 40 Chinese youths living in Japan and over 100 Japanese to the memorial hall, for them to learn the history.

On the 60th anniversary of Nanjing Massacre in 1997, Lin and his fellows started to visit former Japanese soldiers who have been to the war in six Japanese cities, and persuade them to reveal the history. Since then, they have been inviting victims of Nanjing Massacre and scholars to Japan to tell the truth to more Japanese people.

In 2003, Lin and another 14 overseas compatriots donated a bell of peace to the Memorial Hall of the Victims in Nanjing Massacre by Japanese Invaders.
