Changzhou girl crowned champion at world-class diving event

The fifth Caribbean Cup and World Championship Free Diving Depth Competition of 2017 concluded in Honduras on Aug 22.

Lu Wenjie from Changzhou won the championship of the women’s division against adverse conditions of the hurricane and ocean currents. She broke China’s national records for two consecutive days.

A total of 52 athletes, from across the globe, attended took part in the competition.

The free diving competition of the Caribbean Cup, which has been held for four sessions since 2013, has become one of the most important world-class free diving contests. Since 2013, divers from five continents get together at the Roatan of Honduras every year. A total of 12 continental records, along with more than 60 national records, have been set in the competitions.

Lu graduated from the Peking University after completing her studies at the Changzhou Senior High School of Jiangsu province. She became a diver when she was studying in the United States and later became the only Chinese athlete to win a prize at the “World Cup” of the diving sports.
