Microsoft VP expresses pride in Jiangsu

US National Academy of Engineering announced the list of new academicians in 2017 on February 8 this year. Shen was selected as a foreign academician. He was also elected in 2006 as an international academician for Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), also being named academician of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).

Shen was born in Fengzhen Town of Lishui District, Nanjing. In 1980, 14-year-old Shen Xiangyang was admitted to Southeast University to study at the Department of Automatic Control. Later, he went to the University of Hong Kong and Carnegie Mellon University to further his studies, and started to work at Microsoft in 1996.

"Microsoft and Jiangsu have very good cooperation and many talents from Jiangsu are working at Microsoft. I am also very proud of them," Shen Xiangyang said.

Shen explained that the Chinese market occupies a very important position in Microsoft's development strategy and blueprint in the next 10 to 20 years. Microsoft hopes to build a research and development base outside of Beijing. "At present, we have established cooperative relationship in personnel training with Southeast University and Nanjing University. We will extend the cooperation in Nanjing to universities and the various fields of R&D," Shen said.

"Every time I visit Jiangsu, I see new development and the people are leading happier lives", Shen said, "I would like to extend my best wishes to my hometown".
