Xi buys handmade sachet in Xuzhou city

President Xi Jinping was on an inspection tour in Xuzhou city, Jiangsu province on the afternoon of December 12. At Wang Xiuying's sachet studio in Mazhuang village of Jiawang district, Xi spent 30 yuan ($4.5) buying a handmade sachet.

According to Wang, the sachet bought by the president is a thin and long silk pendant embroidered with wave patterns usually seen as the base of imperial costumes, and filled with various medicinal herbs to keep away mosquitoes and refresh the wearer.

80-year-old Wang Xiuying is an inheritor of intangible cultural heritage in Xuzhou. Sachet making is a national intangible cultural heritage that is in huge demand for its profound cultural significance.

Nowadays Wang Xiuying is leading more than 200 people in her village to make sachets, and their annual sales volume reaches 6 million yuan ($3 million) thanks to the e-commerce platform.
