Xi on Nanjing Massacre anniversary: Let history guide future

Chinese President Xi Jinping on Wednesday called on people to learn from history to form a better future, as the country marked the 80th anniversary of the Nanjing Massacre.

December 13 was designated as the National Memorial Day for Nanjing Massacre Victimsat the 12th National People's Congress.

As he met survivors of the Nanjing Massacre and relatives of foreigners who helped China in the war of resistance against Japanese aggression, Xi said we need to embrace true history, good or bad. "We should learn from history and let history guide the future path," he noted.

President Xi attended a state memorial service for the massacre victims on Wednesday morning.

On December 13, 1937, Japanese soldiers began a massacre in which 300,000 lives were lost in the east China's city of Nanjing.
