Liyang opens tea and tourism festivals

The world’s best black tea, Ceylon black tea, comes from Sri Lanka, and the best white tea is in Liyang, said Karunasena Kodituwakku, Sri Lankan’s ambassador to China, at the opening ceremony.

Liyang has found out a unique development path by taking advantages of its rich tea resources. Last year, the city's tea plantation area reached 62,000 mu, with a production capacity of 1,880 tons and an output value of 1.5 billion yuan. Among more than 300 tea enterprises in the city, nearly half own plantations over 100 mu, making the city Jiangsu’s main tea production base.

Liyang also has 17 villages selected into the provincial countryside development program and 266 star-rated agritourism farms, the largest among counties and cities in the province. Liyang received 19 million tourists in last year and achieved a total tourism revenue of 22.8 billion yuan.
