Villagers prepare traditional delicacy for Spring Festival

In the run-up to the Spring Festival, villagers in Tianwang Town, Jurong County are busy preparing glutinous rice cake, a traditional must-have delicacy for China’s Lunar New Year.

It takes several steps to make the sweet glutinous rice cake, such as soaking the sticky rice for at least one day, steaming it after washing it clean, and breaking and pounding it into paste in a mortar.

To pounding glutinous rice paste is quite similar to the forging process for a blacksmith, who needs to shape metal when it’s hot. You can only stop when the sticky rice becomes a smooth paste.
