300 participate Rudong’s kite festival

The 19th International Kite Festival held in Xiaoyangkou Tourism Resort of Rudong County, Nantong City on Sept. 28 attracted 52 teams from all over the country and four teams by students from Laos, Bangladesh, Namibia and India.

Nearly 300 participants joined the two-day festival that included 14 events in two categories – the competitive stunt kites and kitesshow.

Flying kite has been a key part of traditional Chinese culture, and Rudong’s whistling ‘Banyao’ kite has been one of four majorvariations. In 2015, Rudong was named "the hometown of Chinese kites." Rudong kites are known forthe exquisitecraftsmanship as well as crisp and melodic sounds at three levels, which canbe heard from far away. Flying a Rudong kite is also billed as performing a symphonyin the air.
