The national tour of “Xu Beihong and His Time,” an exhibition launched for the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Central Academy of Fine Arts, opened at the Jiangsu Art Museum.

The exhibition, divided into two parts, shows nearly 200 pieces of works, which were mainly collections of the Central Academy of Fine Arts and of art forms of Chinese paintings, oil paintings, sculptures, prints, and watercolors. The exhibition presents the academic exchanges between Xu Beihong and other leading artists in his time, such as Qi Baishi, Zhang Daqian, Huang Binhong, Fu Baoshi, and Li Keran, and also introduces Xu’s ideas on art education.

Xu Beihong is a pioneer and founder in Chinese art in the 20th century, an outstanding master of art and educator. Xu successfully made horse an ionic subject in Chinese painting and enriched the Chinese painting language. Several works displayed in this exhibition were Xu's horse-themed paintings. From a professional point of view, his painting of horse is already one of the few masterpieces showing a remarkable combination of Chinese and Western styles.
