The 2017 "Hongze Lake Cup" Food Festival and National Crab Roe Bun Contest was held at the Guyan scenic area in Hongze district, Huai'an on Thursday. Famous chefs from 20 prestigious restaurants nationwide gathered here, using fresh, big crabs from Hongze Lake to cook crab roe buns of various flavors. While showcasing their cooking skills, the event also attracted a large group of tourists to Hongze, the hometown of crab, to enjoy the lake view and the delicious food.

Abutting Hongze Lake in the west and Baima Lake in the east, and facing the Huaihe River's estuary in the south and the northern Jiangsu irrigation canal in the north, Hongze covers a total area of 1,273 square kilometers, including 55 percent water areas, and is reputed as the “Pearl of Huaihe River” and “Land of Fish and Rice”. Boasting abundant resources, Hongze Lake produces more than 100 types of aquatic products, the most famous of which is the "Eight Fresh Delicacies", including crab, shrimp and a diverse ecosystem of fishes.
