At a workshop in Gaochun, Nanjing, Jiangsu province, a worker cleans a piece of porcelain ware. In the workshop, next to this wholly ordinary activity, sits a bit of something new: an energy-saving, flower pattern baking electric kiln.

As one of China’s well-known national-class porcelain production bases, the Nanjing-based Gaochun Ceramic Co., Ltd. produces about 30 million pieces of porcelain ware each year, exported to more than 100 countries and regions in the world.

Since 2013, the company has been exploring green development. It has completed clean-energy renovations for all of its production kilns. Now, it owns four natural gas kilns and 11 electric kilns, achieving an electric energy substitution amount of about 26.73 million kWh, equivalent to a direct carbon dioxide emission reduction of 9,000 tons.

Reliant on its porcelain-making industry, Gaochun has now become one of the first batch of model settlements in Jiangsu, securing its status as a National-class porcelain town.
