Class AP of Grade 10 at Nanjing No.1 Middle School took the lead in carrying out “grade bank”—if you have a bad performance at one exam, you can borrow points from the “grade bank”.
This innovative measure has triggered quite an impact. A student whose last name is Gui from Grade 10 failed at her physics exam, so she borrowed 7 points from the “grade bank”, making her final score 60. If she repays 7 points to the bank in the final exam, there won’t be any record of failed courses in her transcript.
The school teachers have come up various ways to “repay the points”, including a high-quality class presentation, a good validation experiment, repaying with guarantor and credit blacklist.
“The evaluation of students at the end of learning stage is mostly based on quantifiable points. So the purpose of “grade bank” is to explore new evaluation mechanisms,” said Huang Kan, director of the International Department at Nanjing No.1 Middle School.
