NJU alumni wins outstanding female scientist award

Bao Zhenan

The finalist of 2017 L'Oreal - UNESCO World Outstanding Women Scientist Award was announced recently. Bao Zhenan, an alumni of Nanjing University, is one of the five winners.

Bao was born in Nanjing in 1970. After graduating from Nanjing Jinling Middle School in 1987, Bao was admitted to Nanjing University and studied in the Department of Chemistry. Later, she moved to the US. Currently, she is teaching at the Department of Chemical Engineering of Stanford University. Her main research area covers energy, organic and polymer semiconductor materials.

Prior to this award, Bao was also was named one of the ten most influential researchers of 2015 by Nature magazine.

Bao and her team spent nearly three years and finally developed an artificial skin with superior sensitivity using an elastomeric material called polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS).
