Dadawa (also known as Zhu Zheqin) , the United Nations Development Program China's National Goodwill Ambassador, visited Zhao Shuxian, the inheritor of intangible cultural heritage Nanjing velvet flower craft on Aug 31.
The two discussed the inheritance and promotion of velvet flower craftsmanship through creative design.
Since the launch of the goodwill action plan, titled “Show the World: Culture-Based Development Goodwill Action for Ethnic Minorities in China” in 2010, Dadawa has been dedicating herself to the contemporary interpretation and creation of Chinese traditional handicrafts. This time, she also brings a design team with her, in the hope that after the in-depth communication, they are able to design new velvet flower products within the year.
The velvet flower is one of the most representative handicrafts of Nanjing. A decade ago, it was rated as an intangible cultural heritage of Jiangsu province, and Zhao Shuxian was selected as the provincial-level intangible cultural inheritor of the craftsmanship, who is now the only professional velvet flower designer and maker in Nanjing.
