English edition of Jiangsu Symbol series released at BookExpo America

The release ceremony of the English edition of Jiangsu Symbol series, jointly sponsored by the Press Office of Jiangsu Provincial People's Government and Phoenix Publishing & Media Co., Ltd., was launched at the China Guest of Honor Activity Area at Javits exhibition center in New York, at 1 pm on May 27, the American time.

Prefaced by Luo Zhijun, Jiangsu provincial Party secretary, Jiangsu Symbol is a key book publishing project in China’s 12th Five-Year Plan. It is also one of the three major publicity brands of the Publicity Department of Jiangsu Provincial Party Committee and Provincial Press Office. Wang Yanwen, director of Jiangsu provincial publicity department, is in charge of the editorial committee.

The first batch of Jiangsu Symbol English edition includes Ming Xiaoling Mausoleum, Suzhou Embroidery, Yixing Purple Sand Pottery, Xuzhou Stone Relief in Han Dynasty, Nanjing Brocade and Kun Opera. Presented in both illustrations and explanations in various ways, the series is a selection of the most representative and the symbolic cultural resources of Jiangsu. It portraits the history and culture of Jiangsu and their realistic connotations, showcasing its cultural heritages as well as cultural influences. With particular emphasis laid on the cultural meaning, fun of reading, illustrations and explanations, the series presents profound things in a simple way. The graphic design reflects the subject of each volume, making it easier for foreign readers to understand.

The Chinese edition of Jiangsu Symbol series, published in 2012, has been exhibited on various international book fairs including London International Book Fair. It has been distributed overseas as well, and has been warmly received. The release of its English edition on the BookExpo America will further expand its reader group in the English world. English readers will be able to appreciate the charms of Jiangsu culture and have a deeper understanding of the essence of Jiangsu as well as Chinese traditional cultures.
