The launching ceremony of releasing fish into the Yangtze River was held after the opening ceremony. Around 20 foreigners living in Nanjing took part in this activity. A total of 1 million puffer fish, herring, grass carp and a multitude of other fish were released during the activity.

Zhenjiang is located in a unique position on the Yangtze River. With the increasing scarcity of fish resources, Zhenjiang began to release various species of fish into the river each spring from 2002.
