Friday marks the International Children’s Day. CGTN spoke with the public to ask what gifts they most wanted on Children’s Day when they were children.

Many college students, who were born in the 1990s when the economy started to develop fast after China adopted the policy of reform and opening-up, said they most wanted modern toys, like four-wheel cars, ultra-man toys and also Barbie fashion sets.

Some replied that they wanted nothing in particular on Children’s Day as their parents usually bought them toys on most days.

For those born in the 1980s, when most Chinese people lived a simple life with a limited income, they expected new clothes or snacks on that special day.

When it comes to the elderly, who were born from the 1950s to the 1960s, they hoped to be praised by adults for good behavior or to be given some decent food, as life was quite tough back then.
