Changzhou Science and Education Town is a higher vocational education park famed for its intensive development and resource sharing, as well as a technological innovation platform of production-teaching-research cooperation. Many central leaders such as Hu Jintao, Wen Jiabao, Jia Qinglin, Li Changchun and Li Keqiang have paid inspection visits here and spoke highly of it.
As an education town, it has 5 higher vocational colleges and 1 university with more than 76,000 full-time students. It is the only ModelHigher Vocational Education Park, one of the first "International Service Outsourcing Talents Training Bases” in Jiangsu Province. General resource sharing, integration of academic and vocational education, strong innovation and entrepreneurial ability and cooperation between colleges and enterprises are the prominent features of the park. The first-time employment rate of students in five vocational colleges was higher than 90% for six consecutive years. In addition, the students in education town have won over 300 prizes in the technical skill competitions above the provincial level. Changzhou Science and Education Town has also established broad international cooperation with more than 40 colleges and universities in the United States, Canada, UK, Hong Kong, etc.
Following the development goal of “Economy-Science-Education Linkage, Production-Teaching-Research Cooperation, and University-Institute-Enterprise Common Win”, Changzhou Science and Education Town actively integrates scientific and educational resources and builds a technological innovation platform. Currently, the Science and Education Town has become the International Science and Technology Cooperation Base, National University Science Park and Jiangsu International Service Outsourcing Demonstration Area. By the end of 2010, it had owned 422 R&D and sales headquarters, research institutes, high-tech enterprises, and science & technology intermediary service institutions. Chinese Academy of Sciences set up 13 sub centers here, and 17 prestigious universities also established research institutes and incubation bases here. Up to now, Changzhou Science and Education Town has owned 8,280 skilled personnel in science and technology, including 2,390 persons with senior professional titles or doctor degrees, and 145 entrepreneurial teams of overseas returnees. Aiming at building scientific city and innovative U valley, five functional areas will be built in the third-phase construction, including technology concentration area, public R&D area, project incubator area, industry promotion area and supporting service area. It will become a new hi-tech and innovative urban area integrating business, commerce, recreation and living functions.
Through three to five years of effort, Changzhou Science and Education Town will achieve the goal of “3211”, namely, gathering 30,000 skilled personnel in science and technology, introducing 200 research institutes, incubating 1,000 hi-tech enterprises and owning 100,000 students.
