A hair salon named Violet, which was founded in 1895, reopened on Guoqing Road in Yangzhou city, Jiangsu province, on Nov 1.

Violet was once the biggest hair salon offering largest number of services in the urban area of Yangzhou. But it nearly went bankrupt due to failing to advance with times, sticking to obsolete profit-making modes and having no young successors.

In the second half of 2017, eight barbers in their 50s or above redecorated and reopened the hair salon under the support of the local government.

Qiu Qingfang, a successor of Yangzhou hair-cutting skill and national-level hairdressing master, is one of Violet’s eight barbers. Although 78, he is still energetic and proud of talking about the hairdressing history in Yangzhou. Now, the century-old fashionable hair salon receives many nostalgia-filled old customers and new guests every day.
