Remembering late leader, developing his hometown

An event celebrating the 120th anniversary of the birth of Zhou Enlai kicked off in Huai'an on October 28.

Yang Fuchang, former Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, mayors from sister cities in Europe and Asia and their representatives, leaders of overseas Chinese and Chinese media from foreign countries gathered in the beautiful city of Huai'an for this event.

Yao Xiaodong, secretary of the municipal CPC committee, introduced the development status of Huai'an. Major strategies such as the Belt and Road Initiative and the Yangtze River Economic Belt are implemented around the city, and the Jianghuai ecological economic zone, Huaihe River ecological economic belt and the Grand Canal cultural belt all cover Huai'an, bringing unprecedented opportunities for the city. He invited the attendees to pay attention to Huai'an's development and make united efforts to create a bright future.

Yang Fuchang recalled in his speech the great achievements of Premier Zhou Enlai, especially his contributions to China's diplomacy. When he was young, Yang had contact with Premier Zhou at close range multiple times on diplomatic occasions. He said that the fine traditions demonstrated by the premier have influenced generations of Chinese diplomats.

Ma Lie, head of the Norway Branch of China Council for Promotion of Peaceful National Reunification, said he will seize the opportunity to invest in China and Huai'an and help domestic companies to make overseas investment, so as to boost pragmatic cooperation between China and foreign countries.
