The art of making gold foil is preserved for posterity in Nanjing, East China's Jiangsu province, after the process was digitally recorded and the result passed inspection on Tuesday. The project is key to the Jiangsu Memory Project for intangible cultural heritage. It also is the first digital archive for this national-level intangible cultural heritage.

The digital process included using a 4K high-definition camera. Video, picture preservation, audio, electronic documentation and other storage methods were used, as were 3D scanning, VR and other technical means. In the future, the digital collection can be used for research and development, and gold foil-related digital products.
