Ten days after Jiangsu ended its four-and-a-half-month fishing ban on Sept. 16, fishermen are reporting a good catch, a sign of Jiangsu’s continuing improvement in marine fishery resources.

Despite the impact of repeated typhoons, the catch by each fishing boat has generally increased to varying degrees compared with the same period last year.

Fishermen also reported larger fish caught in the new season, with the average weight of hairtail and pomfret bigger than last year. The quality of large yellow croaker was also better. A fisherman in Qidong City caught a large yellow croaker weighing 2 kilograms that had a market price of 18,000 yuan ($2,614).

Ongoing progress in improving fisheries has guaranteed the income of the fishermen and benefited more customers with a general decline in prices.
