A giant pumpkin, which weighed 117 kilograms and had the vine thicker than a 5-year-old's arm, made a debut at the first pumpkin festival in the agricultural carnival of the Yanghe New District in Suqian city, Jiangsu province, June 30.

Technicians started cultivation of this species introduced from the United States in January and harvested 28 large pumpkins six months later, with the heaviest at 117 kilograms and the others all around 100 kilograms.

Most of these giant pumpkins are used for carving or exhibition, while each is priced about 10,000 yuan (about $1,500).
