Zhenjiang Vegetable Research Institute has recently rolled out beautiful varieties of vegetables and many new products like the “thumb watermelon” will enter local people’s kitchens.

For the first time, the vegetable research institute introduced a new vegetable, Kale, which is a type of ornamental green plant commonly seen in urban green belts. It is actually edible and rich in nutritional value and is particularly popular in European and American countries. Kale is a good source of calcium and vitamins. At present, more than 100 edible kale plants grown by the institute have all matured.

In addition, seasonal fruits and vegetables such as cherry tomatoes, mini cucumbers and acorn squash have gradually matured at the vegetable research centers. The widely anticipated thumb watermelon will ripen more slowly this year and is expected to mature by August.
