A farmer operated a harvester on farmland shared by crayfish and rice at Mingzuling town, Xuyi county, Huai’an city, East China's Jiangsu province on Sunday. During the period around the autumnal equinox, which fell on Saturday, farmers in Xuyi county, also known as the Town of Crayfish, started to harvest rice on their crayfish-rice farmland.

In recent years, Xuyi county has been developing an ecological crayfish-rice cyclic cultivation mode in the adjustment of its agricultural structure, namely cultivating crayfish in rice fields at the same time. The aim is to reap higher farmland output and benefits. To date, a total of about 9,000 hectares of crayfish-rice farmland have been developed.
