Small restaurant in Suqian survives for 50 years owning to featured dish

Restaurant owner Sun Naihua, 72, is a local celebrity in Daxing town, Suyu district, Suqian city, in East China's Jiangsu province.

After marrying her husband, surnamed Jin, 50 years ago, the then-22-year-old Sun opened a small restaurant beside Daxing Street in Daxing town. Even now, business at her restaurant is still flourishing, thanks to the restaurant’s featured traditional Suqian delicacy, braised pork with pepper.

Sun said that she doesn't remember when braised pork with pepper became the main dish at feasts for local weddings or funerals in Suqian. She learned to prepare the dish a long time ago after watching many rural cooks prepare it. In the past 50 years, she's always insisted on using the traditional method to cook the dish, resulting in the preservation of its unique traditional taste.
