On the occasion of the 26th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Israel and the 70th anniversary of the founding of Israel, Lai Wenmin and Wang Ziyueer of the Soochow University's School of Art stood out at the Diplomatic Gift Design Contest held by Consulate General of Israel in Shanghai, receiving two rewards for scarves and ties.

The winning silk scarves and ties will become the official diplomatic gifts of the Consulate General Consulate of Israel in Shanghai, and as a reward the two winners will get a free trip to Israel.

In the tie design, Wang Ziyueer read a lot of information about the traditional Jewish culture and folk customs, carefully selected distinctive elements, determined the “Star of David,” a symbol of modern Jewish identity, and the number 7, which holds special meanings, as the basic patterns, and then used the blue and white colors of Israeli flag.

In the design of scarves, Lai Wenmin integrated the story of Exodus into her creation. Based on literature studies, she chose symbols such as camels, figs, palm trees, and ears of wheat as the basic patterns, illustrated Jewish people’s escape from suffering and reconstruction of the homeland in the form of illustrations, and presented Israel’s unique culture, history and landscape.
