An “Advanced Youth” award ceremony held in Luoyang City, Henan Province, announced the commendable deeds of 10 outstanding young people, including Chen Zipeng from Jiangsu’s Wuxi, on May 22.

Born in January 2003, Chen is now a third-year middle school student. Suffering from Duchenne muscular dystrophy, Chen has a spinal deformity and muscle atrophy, making coping with basic daily life such as eating, going up stairs and using the toilet difficult. Yet he is a well-known physicist talent in the school. His innovative IoT works have won first prize in municipal, provincial and national competitions. He cooperated with classmates in the creation of a “Smart Feeder for Stray Pets” which won first prize in a contest at the World IoT Expo. He even got the name “junior Stephen Hawking.”

Encouraged by Chen’s persevering spirit in seeking knowledge and unyielding attitude in facing challenges, some of those afflicted like him have started to participate in activities, and have even joined him in a mini-marathon. He has inspired other patients to hold a positive attitude every day.
