The 2nd “Shamrock Cup” English Speech Competition for middle school students, co-organized by the Foreign Affairs Office of Jiangsu Province, Cork County Council of Ireland, and the Consulate General of Ireland in Shanghai, opened at the Shuren School affiliated to Nanjing Normal University on April 15. Sixty students from 20 junior high schools in Nanjing City participated in the semi-finals.

According to Ireland's Consul General in Shanghai, Therese Healy, "Shamrock is Ireland's national flower and a symbol of Ireland's national spirit." Jiangsu Province and Cork County started friendly exchanges in 2013.

The theme of this year's speech competition is “Culture and Education in Jiangsu and Ireland”. In addition to the content of the speech and English proficiency, the competition also focuses on the form of the show and player’s teamwork. The first-prize winning team will get a seven-day study tour in Ireland fully funded by Cork County Council.
