April 2 marks World Autism Awareness Day. A dozen little players wearing yellow waist coats played football were seen on a playground in Haizhou District, Lianyungang. They are autistic children and members of the first football team for autistic kids in China.

Aged 7 to 16, they come from Enfold, an autism family support service center. Their coach uses a specialized “integrated training” method to teach, during which psychologists lead their parents to attend themed reading meetings to explore and exchange experiences on autistic children’s education.

Enfold’s staff consists of psychologists, social workers, doctors, teachers and volunteers from various fields that over the past two years have successfully organized many philanthropic projects. Founder Qu Shigang, a psychologist and intermediate social worker, has the ultimate goal of building an inclusive school through joint efforts where autistic children can receive training and return to society with the ability to live independently.

Lianyungang has around 300 autistic children at present.
