Dr. Yang Gang of Jiangsu Provincial People's Hospital has made headlines in Bangladesh after helping perform the country’s first cardiac ablation using a 3D real time mapping and navigation system.

Yang, who works at the hospital’s cardiovascular medicine department, is also a member of Professor Chen Minglong’s team dedicated to offering medical services to countries along the "Belt and Road" initiative, with Bangladesh the first stop.

Cardiac ablation as a safe treatment for treating arrhythmia has been practiced in China for nearly 15 years but it just made a start in Bangladesh.

Local doctors know of the treatment but they don’t know how to perform themselves, according to Yang, who arrived a month ago to teach the method in the country with one of the world's highest population densities.

This year, Chen’s team from the hospital, also known as the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University, will bring more medical technologies to countries along the initiative.

First proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping in September 2013, the "Belt and Road" initiatives consist of a network of railways, highways and other forms of infrastructure, as well as oil and gas pipelines, power grids, Internet networks and aviation routes in the Eurasian area.
