With Spring Festival, or Chinese Lunar New Year is nearing, all kinds of preparations and New Year rituals are under way.

A group of 38 Chinese and foreign pupils from more than ten countries and regions attended a winter camp on China’s New Year traditions on Feb. 8.

Luna from France is a fourth grader at The British School of Nanjing. She learned paper-cutting from Sun Miaoyan, a Nanjing girl from Fangcaoyua Primary School. With simple English and body language, Luna learned some simple paper-cutting in a short time, and even made her very first calligraphy work.

Sophia from Italy is a sixth grader from Nanjing International School. Although she has just come to China for seven months, she can introduce herself in fluent Chinese. She learned how to make Chinese dumplings at the winter camp. “It is the first time for me and my family to spend the Chinese New Year in China. We are thinking about inviting our friends and have a big meal!” she said.

The winter camp, organized by Jiangsu Provincial Foreign Affairs Office, the Jiangsu Provincial Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, as well as Jiangsu Foreign Affairs Translation and Interpretation Center, the activity aims to enhance communication and promote Chinese culture among Chinese and foreign youngsters.
