A special ceremony for a student grant donation was recently held at the Changzhou Xingming Hospital in East China’s Jiangsu province. The donor is 99-year-old Zhou Yingfang, who is a retired teacher from the Juqianjie Primary School in Changzhou, according to Jiangsu media on Sept 24.

While reading the Aug 26 edition of the Changzhou Evening News, Zhou learned student grants of Changzhou’s 2017 Dream-Realizing Action under China’s Hope Project were distributed to college freshmen from families in financial difficulties. Zhou asked the sanatorium where she lives to contact the Changzhou City Communist Youth League, as she saw the chance to finally realize her long-time wish of donating her lifelong savings, valued at 300,000 yuan ($44,000), to assist college students from poor families.

During the ceremony, Zhou donated the sum to the Dream-Realizing Action under supervision by the Changzhou City Notary Office. The money will be distributed to qualified college freshmen in batches, with an average of 5,000 yuan ($735) each.
